Our People

Bill Hopper

Vice chair, Planning & Development team

How did you get involved in the Society?

I am on the Newcastle Conservation Advisory Panel (NCAP) where I met Tim Wickens. Tim suggested that I might be able to help in the Tyneside committee (now Planning & Development team).

How long have you been a member?

Since 2018.

What are your main interests?

Architecture, landscape and gardens, development.

What's your professional background?

I am an architect since 1974, and in practice on my own account in Newcastle since 1979. Though semi -retired, I am still involved with some projects.

Where are your favourite place(s) in the Society's 'patch'?

Newcastle City centre and closer suburbs. Most of my professional work has been in the City, and I was brought up here since the age of 2, always aware of the sheer quality of our built environment. Newcastle is a wonderful place.

Is there anything else you'd like to add?

I think that the blend of professional and lay members of the Society is a very positive thing and should be encouraged.
