It is with a big "THANK YOU" that I can now say the campaign has been victorious and has been brought to a successful close. Northumberland County Council (NCC) have now confirmed that they have listened to public opinion and have withdrawn the sale of the land at Green Lane car park.
The online petition with its 3701 signatures has been sent to NCC along with a petition signed by the vast majority of Holy Island village residents. The presentation of these petitions has been timed to coincide with a referendum organised by the Holy Island Parish Council, that took place last Thursday in the village. The outcome of the referendum was an astounding "YES" to the introduction of a planning rule to protect the village from any inappropriate development in the future. It is now intended to continue working to ensure that NCC understand the need to improve and organise the car park so that it can be used more efficiently for coaches and disabled parking.
Although Holy Island is a small village with only 130 residents, this petition has proved that we have many friends and supporters who appreciate its special nature. Once again, THANK YOU! Your voice has been heard and Holy Island has been protected!
